This pretty property certainly lives up to its name. Meaning 'best' in Cornish, Gwella is a beautiful stone cottage for four nestled in iconic Mousehole with epic 180-degree panoramic views across the village, harbour and Mount's Bay from the sea terrace garden. Surprisingly spacious and bright, this two-bedroomed bolthole is seconds from the harbour, beach, pub, restaurants, cafes and deli that lie within the lovely seaside village. Gwella benefits from its own private parking space - a rare thing for Mousehole. This charming retreat is perfect for couples and families alike.

Living

Step through the original stable door and you'll find yourself in the main living area, light and bright with double aspect windows, crisp whitewashed walls and wooden floors and gorgeous exposed Cornish granite feature wall. The lightness of the space is beautifully offset by the warm, rich colours of the luxurious velvet Loaf sofa and chaise, the cosy wood burning stove, colourful local artwork and the lustre of the dark wooden beams. For entertainment, there's a Sonos speaker and Smart TV, whilst those seeking a digital detox can enjoy the selection of books and board games.

Upstairs, there is a wonderful addition of a reading snug, with a comfy French day bed to savour moments of calm with your latest page turner. Enjoy the dreamy view over the roof tops towards St Michael's Mount. There's also a desk should you need to catch up on an email or two.

Eating

Two steps down from the living room, you will find the gorgeous country kitchen, with pearly white walls and striking blue cupboards. We just love the owners' collection of vintage copper pans and original Cornishware pottery. Of course, you'll find all the modern high-end appliances needed to rustle up holiday feasts too! At the other end of the double room living space you'll find the dining area complete with country-kitchen style dining table and cocktail trolley to tempt the mixologist in you.

Sleeping

There are two stylish bedrooms at Gwella, decorated in restful shades of blue, grey and white, with pale wooden floors.

The first bedroom has a sumptuous king-size bed, with a charming window seat to sit and admire the sea view, looking out across Mounts Bay.

The second bedroom can be made into twins or a super king for flexible sleeping arrangements and has a glimpse of the sea from the cute window seat.

Both beds are swathed in crisp white linens, sumptuous bedding and cosy throws and cushions, ensuring a blissful nights' sleep whilst listening to the soothing sound of the sea.

Bathing

The gorgeously grey shower room has a large walk in shower and a heated rail to keep towels warm and fluffy.

Outside space

Gwella boasts an amazing sea terrace, just a 15-second walk from the house. With an incredible vista back over the village and harbour then right across Mount's Bay, you'll be hard-pushed to find a better spot. Perfectly positioned to enjoy the sun rise and sun set (and everything in between), there's a table and rattan chairs for outside meals, whilst the pretty teak bench is made for moments gazing out to sea across to St Michaels' Mount. If you're lucky, you might spot the resident pod of dolphins or seals on St. Clements Island. Steep stone steps next to the garden lead down onto the rocky foreshore where you can walk back to the harbour at low tide.

WiFi

There is Superfast Broadband throughout the cottage, so you can keep in touch with the outside world.

Step out of your door and wander into the heart of pretty Mousehole, where you'll find some excellent places to eat and drink. Head to the Hole Food deli for coffee, cake and lunches and pick up some local goodies to take home with you. Alternatively, enjoy the view from Rock Pool Café over tea and cake (and keep an eye out for dolphins). The Old Coastguard and 2 Fore Street are perfect for sumptuous suppers whilst the nearby Tolcarne Inn in Newlyn is worth a visit. For things to do, join the South West Coastal Path from Mousehole and walk to nearby Lamorna Cove - approximately five miles of glorious sea views and a good yomp to blow away the cobwebs! Alternatively, pop in the car and head further west to Porthcurno and the Minack Theatre, or further around to Cape Cornwall and Sennen Cove. Alternatively, St Ives is only 20 minutes' drive away on the North coast, whilst of course there's St Michael's Mount and Marazion to explore on the South. A hidden gem and a must-visit is Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens - a botanical beauty filled with art as well as incredible sea views and an excellent restaurant close to Penzance. Further afield a visit to the Lizard is a must as an AONB, whilst the harbour village of Portheleven has an excellent selection of eateries.

This laid-back, luxurious beauty is a sumptuous seaside getaway in a quintessentially Cornish harbour with the most incredible sea views.

The Longest Beaches in Cornwall

Cornwall is home to many beautiful beaches: the golden frontiers between land and sea. But which are the longest beaches in Cornwall, and where can you find them?

We know how gorgeous our retreats are, but don’t just take our word for it – here’s what previous guests say about Gwella:

Thank you for a lovely stay. Gwella is such a wonderful, cosy cottage and a perfect spot for a little getaway. Mousehole is such a pretty place - my dad and I had a great time exploring. The view over the bay from the top of the hill is amazing.

This is our fifth year in Mousehole, our fourth in Gwella and we still love it! We have been lucky with the weather this year and have two superb days on Marazion Beach, paddleboarding and kayaking. The Minack was an absolute highlight as always.

Such an amazing place. Serene, beautiful and special. Mousehole was a delight and this beautiful cottage was the cherry on the cake. The sound of the sea has been heavenly.

Thank you Gwella and Mousehole for such a special time.

Lovely cottage in a great location. The garden was a joy to sit, enjoy the scenery and read a book in.

Gwella was amazing. We had the best week there. Truly beautiful and the perfect location.

Great cottage with marvellous facilities and attention to detail. Loved the seating area looking over the sea.

The location is excellent! You can see and hear the sea, everything you need is walkable.

Beautiful granite cottage virtually on the sea wall at Mousehole - the terrace overlooking Mount’s Bay is possibly the best view of any holiday seating area we’ve ever had. The sense of being welcome began with the home made scones, clotted cream and jam left for us by Laura, plus fresh milk, prosecco and a seasonal scattering of Easter eggs around the house. Very comfortable furnishings and attractive rooms. The sound of the sea in the bedrooms was wonderful. From Gwella you can wander around Mousehole and along the South West Coastal path - it was a joy not to need our car for a week!

Gwella is a beautiful cottage. It was an ideal size for our family of four and we all slept soundly. The beds were so very comfortable and we adored the reading nook and bay window seats. It was wonderful to hear the sea as we drifted off to sleep and to listen to the gulls in the morning. We made good use of the outdoor terrace as it was lovely to pop down to with a cuppa or a glass of something at different times of the day to soak up the beautiful view and changing skies. Gwella is a great location from which to explore the local area and it was not until our stay there that we truly appreciated how useful it is to have a parking space. Gwella is perfectly situated within Mousehole as we loved strolling to and from the cottage many times a day having visiting the gorgeous shops, beach, delis, pubs and restaurants. Thank you for an amazing stay.

We love the fairy-light adorned Gwella, and especially love how much it feels like home. Waking up to the sound of the sea or walking home, head tilted up at the expanse of stars, Mousehole is the best of Cornwall. Thank you to Laura who made our stay extra brilliant.

Good location with the added benefit of a garden and parking space - rare in Mousehole! Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area and walking the coastal path. Would definitely recommend eating in the Tolcarne Inn in Newlyn.

Lovely cosy, very comfortable cottage. So peaceful. We loved the garden and having a cuppa there after a day of walking. Brilliant to have the parking space too, and plenty big enough for our people carrier. You can hear the waves crashing in the bay as you fall asleep. Just the perfect place to relax. We loved our four night break here.

Gorgeous cosy cottage in a perfect location close to the village and the sea. Parking space was much appreciated.

Gwella was a beautiful cottage & we felt very at home there. The location was perfect, the parking space was a bonus and the courtyard overlooking the sea was a lovely treat for a sunny day. We loved our stay here.

Beautiful hideaway, quiet and tranquil. All you can hear is the sea. The garden terrace absolutely makes it, private little oasis in mousehole.

'Gwella was a beautiful cottage and we felt very at home there. The location was perfect, the parking space was a bonus and the courtyard overlooking the sea was a lovely treat for a sunny day. We loved our stay here' - September 2020

'My husband and I just returned from one week's stay at Gwella. It was perfectly prepared for arrival and we immediately felt at home there. The cottage was lovely and the location superb! The parking space was a godsend for Mousehole. The star feature of Gwella was the terrace with panoramic view of the harbour. Apart from our walks on the SW Coastal Path and outings, we spent most of our time on the terrace, enjoying the sun and sea, with husband glued to his binoculars birdwatching' - September 2020

'Lovely location and really enjoyed our stay' - September 2020

'Beautiful hideaway, quiet and tranquil. All you can hear is the sea. The garden terrace absolutely makes it, private little oasis in mousehole' - August 2020

'Lovely stylish cottage in a wonderful location! Boutique Retreats contact very helpful and friendly! Particularly loved the sea terrace, such a magical spot right on the water! The location is just a few minutes' walk into the centre of Mousehole which was ideal. Highly recommend Gwella!' - June 2019

'Gwella is fantastic, fabulous location and parking space a huge bonus. The decor and presentation was outstanding, lovely attention to detail, my daughter didn’t want to go out! It’s so comfortable and stylish an absolute pleasure to stay in. The little sea view garden is a pleasant surprise and we braved it for a coffee but obviously October is not a month to sit out, if/when we return it would be lovely to sit in the sun! I’ve already recommended it to everyone I’ve seen! ' - October 2018

'Everything was perfect, the house and the rooms were beautifully presented and with so much space, which we haven't had before when we visited Mousehole. Loved the personal touches. It was a great place to stay. Thank you!' October 2018

'The cottage is so tastefully put together. The sun terrace was an absolute delight for breakfast and the perfect place for a well earned glass of of wine at the end of the day...I will miss the stunning view.' October 2018
